When the Alfa Romeo Giulia hit the market, the rumors appeared that a two-door coupe version of the car is going to come out next. Even though it took the Italian carmaker two years to confirm those rumors, we are glad that the two-door coupe version of the Giulia is on the way. But not everything is going to be as expected and Alfa Romeo actually plans to revive the GTV name with this car, which will be more powerful than the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan. What can we expect from this vehicle?
2020 Alfa Romeo GTV Exterior
All you have to do is look at the teaser and realize that the new car is a two-door variant of the Giulia, but a closer look allows you to see all the differences and unique parts about the car. The headlamps are revised, taller than Giulia’s whereas the outer corner is less angular. Furthermore, the Giulia’s LED layout is substituted with three-squared off lights.
Even though we cannot see clearly, the front bumper and the grille should remain identical. On the sides, the GTV showcases the deeply cut waistline. As for the rear end, there is no image of it, but it should be similar to Giulia’s with some minor tweaks. Bear in mind that the 2020 Alfa Romeo GTV is not going to be closely related to the iconic model that was sold in the 1970s.
Interior of Alfa Romeo GTV
Whereas the exterior gets some notable changes, the cabin of the new GTV will be identical to the sedan. A few things will be modified, but the buyers can expect the familiar layout. And this is a positive thing because Giulia’s interior is quite appealing. Even though leather upholstery is not standard in the base model, higher trim levels will provide you with such.
The dashboard has an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with the system that features voice activation, smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Dead Reckoning tech and so much more. There is a possibility that the screen will be larger in the GTV, but the features will remain the same, most likely. Also, a 3.5-inch screen is located between the dials in the entry-level, while a 7.0-inch display occupies this spot in higher trims.
Additional items that could be included are taken from the high-performance Quadrifoglio model, and they are Alcantara leather, a sports steering wheel, and heavily bolstered front seats. Considering that the GTV will have a sloping roof, the headroom will decrease, but legroom is expected to remain the same unless the wheelbase is shortened, which is unlikely to happen.
Engine
Alfa Romeo has been quiet about what they plan to put underneath the GTV’s hood. What we know so far is that there is a 50:50 weight distribution, AWD configuration, torque vectoring and with the E-Boost system, the powertrain will produce more than 600 horsepower. And this tells us that the GTV will be a mild hybrid.
If we had to guess, Alfa Romeo would most likely install the 3.0-liter V6 from the Giulia Quadrofoglio, which currently generates 505 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. It will produce even more in the new car, and the sprint to 60 mph will be around 3.5 seconds.
What remains to be seen is whether the GTV badge will be the entire lineup or just the high-end vehicle. In case of an entire lineup, we expect other engines as well.
Pricing
The 2020 Alfa Romeo GTV might start at around $43,000, which about $5,000 more than the Giulia base trim that starts at $38,195. As for the GTV Quadrifoglio, it will cost approximately $78,000. Follow us for more details.
