Everyone who owns a car knows how hard it is to pay attention to the road, pedestrians and other traffic at the same time. We get distracted for just one second when we are parallel parking and realize we didn’t notice the sidewalk that’s just behind it.
When we are parking in one of those huge malls, there are signs and chains and walls everywhere and it’s a miracle when you don’t bump into one of them. Dents and dings are normal, however, every time we make even the slightest dent in our car, we hurt as we’ve hurt ourselves.
The first time you scratch your car you feel like your whole world has fallen apart. The combination of panic and fear makes you feel anxious and like you’ve lost your breath. Pretty much everyone feels the same way and when you don’t see a wall, sign or another car and you make a dent in your precious vehicle, you feel like your heart is going to explode. This is even scarier when you have a brand-new car that you spent thousands on.
If you scratch your vehicle or if you somehow make a dent in it, you should not panic. Unless there is too much damage, there are many ways to fix it and to make it look like you just bought it. Most of these tips won’t cost you too much money, and you don’t have to take your car to the mechanic. Follow these tips and your vehicle will always look like you are the number one driver.
Use ice and a hairdryer
When you rapidly change the temperature of the car, chances are, it will remove any dents and bumps. You only need four things to do this – a hairdryer, a pack of ice, some aluminum foil and gloves to protect yourself.
Start by heating up the place where the bump is. Experts say that you should not get closer to the exterior than 5 inches or about 15 centimeters. After about one minute, use the gloves to put aluminum foil over the dent. Apply the ice pack on the bump and it should pop back up.
This method works for most small bumps and it should fix the damage right away. Make sure you don’t overheat your vehicle and if it doesn’t work the first time, you try again in about 10-15 minutes.
Plunger
Users say that this is the best and the easiest way to fix any bumps. The vacuum makes it easy to get rid of dents and experts say that it works even on bigger damages. So, if someone bumped your car door and if the damage looks pretty nasty, you don’t have to worry.
Start by pouring water over the dent and stick the plunger. You need the water so that the plunger sticks on the car. Push the plunger up and down and don’t use too much force. Repeat that as many times as needed until the bump pops out.
Know where to invest
Some of the things we forget to buy are tools and utilities that fix damages and scratches effortlessly. When we notice something great, we just say we don’t need it and when we do need it, we cannot find it. Because of that, you need to invest in simple things that you can keep in your car just in case something happens.
Another thing we make a mistake with is trying to fix something and end up causing a bigger problem. Miracle Dent suggests that even the biggest dents can be fixed painlessly, so make sure you find the right car service that can help you when needed.
Fix plastic as well
If you have a bump or a ding on your bumper, you don’t have to worry about it. There is a quick and easy way to fix that. You just need boiling water and protective gloves.
Pour the boiling water over the bumper and pop the dent back up with your fingers. This is fairly easy to do, just make sure you don’t burn yourself. Repeat that if needed and when you are all done and the bumper looks good, pour ice-cold water over it to make sure everything stays in place.
The vacuum cleaner can help you as well
In case you don’t have a plunger, then you could use your vacuum cleaner to fix your vehicle. To do this, you are going to need an old bucket as well.
Start by drilling a hole at the bottom of the bucket, just make sure it is a small one. Next, place the bucket over the bump and use the vacuum cleaner to create a vacuum so that the bump pops out. Make sure you keep the cleaner on until the dent pops out, and don’t move the bucket around too much. You can keep it in place with some duct tape or find someone to help you hold the bucket while you use the vacuum cleaner.
Do you have any tips for removing dings and dents from your car that we didn’t mention here? What do you do when you see a scratch on your vehicle that wasn’t there the night before?
One thing you must remember is that you cannot predict how other people will act. Even if you take amazing care of your vehicle and even if you are a great driver, you cannot be sure about other people. Many times, we just park our vehicle, go home and the next morning we notice that someone bumped it. Not everyone will leave a note with their number so you can get the insurance to cover the damage, so you need to have a few tricks up your sleeve.
The next time you notice a scratch or a bump on your vehicle, don’t panic. Remember these tips and start your DIY project that will make it look like there was no damage at all. And, at the end of the day, as long as you and your family are safe, other things don’t really matter. Things that can be bought with money are not worth stressing over.
